What is the WYVERN Certification?
Established in 1992, WYVERN is the world’s first business aviation audit company and a globally-recognized leader in aviation safety. Its WYVERN third-party safety certification was created specifically for private jet charter operators to rigorously vet their risk management practices. Operators must meet stringent standards and criteria, exceeding the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirements, to achieve WYVERN certification.
Why was WYVERN introduced?
WYVERN was founded with the mission to “protect lives by inspiring excellence in aerospace safety.” The program aims to cultivate a positive and proactive safety culture, from top management down to the workforce.
The safety certification enables private jet travelers to make an informed decision about an operator’s safety practices, using WYVERN as a benchmark.
How is WYVERN achieved?
To achieve WYVERN certification, operators are carefully evaluated by an auditor – assessing and reviewing all aspects of operations against industry-leading best practices. This includes examining operational history, safety records and safety management systems (SMS), emergency response plans, training programs and more. Additionally, operators are audited regularly to verify that they continue to meet WYVERN’s exacting standards.
WYVERN offers two level ratings:
Registered: An operator has registered with WYVERN and maintains fleet, crew, and insurance information as well as verified regulatory documentation in WYVERN’s proprietary Aviation Compliance Enhancement System (ACES).
Wingman Certified: WYVERN’s top certification, Wingman signifies an organization’s elevated commitment to safety risk management. It requires an exhaustive on-site audit to confirm the operator complies with industry best practices and also meet WYVERN’s own rigorous standards, which includes a company’s overall safety culture.
