Everything you need to know about booking a private plane charter

Charter Logistics, Travel

Flying private offers unparalleled convenience and flexibility – down to the ease of the booking process. Chartering a private jet with Schubach Aviation is simple and we have 35 years of aviation expertise to advise you every step of the way. Read on for the step-by-step process of chartering a private jet:

1. Travel details

First, gather all of your travel details: departure/destination, travel dates and times, and number of passengers. Unlike reserving a ticketed commercial flight, there are no fixed schedules – booking a private jet charter is entirely tailored to your individual needs. Charters can be arranged with very little notice, though the more notice that you are able to give the more aircraft options you will have. For example, at Schubach Aviation, our jet charter experts are available 24 hours a day seven days a week and with a little as two hours notice (via call or email inquiry) we can put your travel plans in motion.

2.  Aircraft selection

Your charter operator will present the available private jet options best suited to your travel plans. Some of the considerations when selecting a charter jet are individual aircraft size preference, aircraft range, capability (based on the destination airport), and the number of passengers. Look for an operator with a modern fleet, paying close attention to aircraft age, type, and size.

3.  Flight crew

You’ll want to work with an experienced operator that holds third-party safety ratings that exceed the FAA standard, including WYVERN, IS-BAO, and ARGUS. Third-party safety ratings look closely at pilots’ total time, time in the specific aircraft as well as the combined time of both flight crew members to ensure passengers have safe, experienced, and professional flight crews.  At Schubach Aviation, we’re proud to hold a Platinum ARGUS rating (2024) and Wyvern Wingman (2025) and IS-BAO Stage 3 certifications.

4.  Arrival Airport

There are nearly 5,000 private airports in the United States alone, compared to fewer than 500 served by commercial airlines. As part of the charter booking process the most convenient and time-saving airport, closest to your final destination, is identified by the aircraft operator.

5. Quote

To book your private jet charter flight you’re provided with a comprehensive quote. Operators that fly on-demand, including Schubach Aviation, invoice flights on a per-flight, trip-by-trip basis without any long-term commitment. Pay attention to cancellation policies, wait time allowances and aircraft substitution clauses as they can vary by operator.

6. Book your trip

To book your private jet charter flight payment terms and options are presented. Most flights require prepayment by wire or credit card and are not confirmed until payment is received.

7. Before flight

Once your flight is confirmed a charter advisor will further personalize your travel, with arrangements for ground transportation, catering, and more. At Schubach Aviation, we pride ourselves on our unmatched concierge-level service, any special requests are noted in a pre-flight itinerary delivered 24-hours prior to your flight and we take note of your preferences for future trips.

8. Day of flight

Plan to arrive 15-20 minutes ahead of your scheduled wheels up time.Your charter advisor will confirm that all of the details are in place for departure and arrival , to ensure a seamless travel experience.
