Schubach Suggests: Caribbean Edition

Couple in private planeWhere to go if you’re ready to travel internationally, but prefer to stay closer to home? The Caribbean archipelago, with 7,000+ individual islands, is in close reach – especially when flying private. Enjoy more direct routes and shorter flight times, so you can spend more time soaking up the year-round sunshine.

Below, we’ve rounded-up our suggested, less traveled destinations in the Caribbean Sea, that offer the ultimate luxury – privacy.

St. Lucia

Located in the Eastern Caribbean, St. Lucia is the largest of the Windward islands encompassing both breathtaking turquoise waters lapping white sand beaches and unspoilt rugged volcanic landscapes. The island’s west coast is characterized by two volcanic mountains rising from the sea, Gros and Petit Piton, believed to have been formed between 200,000 and 300,000 years ago.

Don’t miss: The luxury, adult-only Ladera Resort is the only resort situated on a UNESCO World Heritage Site, on a volcanic ridgeline 1,000 feet above sea level.

Nevis

The diminutive former British colony (it achieved independence in 1983), is often referred to as “The Queen of Ceribees”and embodies a rustic, old-school spirit for a less crowded alternative to other Caribbean islands. Vibrant coral reefs border Nevis’ miles long golden beaches – the island was a holiday destination for Princess Diana – while Nevis Peak, a potentially active volcano, is a popular hiking adventure.

Don’t miss: Head to historic Bath Village for a dip in the famous therapeutic hot springs.

Curaçao

The “under-the-radar” isle, the “C” of the ABC Dutch Caribbean islands (part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands), is closer to South American than the USA. Experience Curacçao’s nearly 40 beaches along the sparkling Caribbean Sea along with its lively capital, Willemstad – the Old Town Center, with architecture that marries both Dutch and Spanish influence, is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Don’t miss: Visit Klein or “little” Curaçao, a 1.7-square-kilometre uninhabited island about 25 miles southeast of Curaçao, for a relaxing day trip.

Petit St. Vincent

The ultra-secluded 115-acre private island hideaway, 40 miles south of St. Vincent in the Grenadine Islands, boasts just 22 luxe cottages. Soak up Petit St. Vincent’s natural beauty – two miles of pristine white sand beaches surround a tropical woodland – while you truly disconnect from the outside world (there are no TVs or WiFi on the island).

Don’t miss: Get certified to explore a 100-year-old shipwreck with guides from the Jean-Michel Cousteau Dive Center, founded by the son of the legendary explorer.
